Rebecca Saxby                            

Rebecca Saxby read music at Cambridge University gaining a 2:1 degree. There she was principal of Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra playing under such conductors as Jane Glover and Jonathon Del Mar. She also gained and Instrumental Award scholarship to received regular coaching from the Endellion quartet. Rebecca concentrated on performing under the tutorage of Elizabeth Turnbull and received a scholarship to study at Trinity College of Music. In this time, Rebecca was the winner of several prestigious prizes within TCM, including the Cavatina Trust chamber music prize and John Barbirolli prize. Rebecca has worked with many orchestras including Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra, Cambridge Opera Society, Richmond Riverside Opera and the Thames Philharmonia. She places great importance on outreach work and has been an active member of the RCM Elastic Band. She has also played with the Britten Sinfonia and English Chamber Orchestra for outreach projects. Rebecca regularly attends string courses both in England and abroad, playing at Dartington International Festival, AIMS Solsona under Paul Silverthorne and Andriy Vitovych, Cadenza String School, and is co-principal of the Amadeus Orchestra which included a tour of China in 2005. In 2006, Rebecca entered the Royal College of Music to study for a MMus under Ian Jewel. In the last year, she has worked with world renowned conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sir Roger Norrington, and Sir Charles MacKerras. For her studies at the RCM, Rebecca has received funding from the Victor Ford Foundation, St. Marylebone Trust, Albert Cooper Trust, John Wates Charitable Trust, the RCM scholarship fund, Pilgrim Band Trust, Nichol Young Foundation and the EMI Sound Foundation. Rebecca gained a PGDip with distinction and is currently auditioning for the LSO string scheme. She hopes to continue her studies at the Royal Academy of Music.
